An unforgettable tour to some of the beauties of Nicaragua
While your driver takes care of the endless list of paperwork at customs you can visit the two duty-free stores or have a snack in the restaurant. Once on the way to San Jorge you'll see the large lake that looks like th ocean and lots bicycle taxis and fruit stands at the roadside. The roads are excellent, compared to Costa Rica and soon you'll reach some towns specializing in indigenous pottery.
After visiting a shop with a pottery demonstration, you'll reach an outlook point where you can see the Laguna de Apoyo, visit the Indian market Masaya and drive up to the impressive crater of the active volcano Masaya. From there you'll soon reach the oldest colonial town of Central America, Granada (1524).
At the famous hotel Alhambra right next to the Central park and the Cathedral you'll get a fine lunch. One of the romantic horse-carts called Volanta, together with a bilingual guide will take you around the city and explain some of its history, including the house of William Walker, and other interesting facts.
On the way home you'll be driving through Rivas and might want to have a look at the beautiful church there. When we took the tour we were so tired by now that we all fell asleep until we reached customs. It was fast to get back to Costa Rica (Don't bring any food, it will get thrown away). We were all very positively impressed by this tour.
