A unique package to an indigenous tribe and natural wonders
This package is unique in Costa Rica. You will live for a few days with the indigenous Tribe called Maleku. This rather small tribe maintains lots of old traditions, including their language which they still teach in school. The Maleku Indians are proud to be Malekus. This is not the case with some other reserves. They have accumulated a large knowledge-base about plants, specially medical plants. Plants they use for local anaesthesia, colour their cloths and to heal many ailments. They still produce and wear their traditional cloths made of the bark from a special tree during their ceremonies. Their main-source of income is the sale of their crafts, like masks, bows and musical instruments, etc.
I personally wear one of their head-bands sometimes during work, to keep the hair out of my face. One of the Maleku-guides will take you in their own bus to the
Caño Negro National Wildlife Refuge, where you may see Water-Fowl, Crocodiles, Iguanas, Mammals and Sweet-water turtles, on the Río Celeste tour you will be able to take a swim in the thermal waters, see the caverns called El Venado and of course at their own tour through the dense forest in the reserve, you will see how much knowledge they have accumulated about poisonous frogs and medicinal plants. There you also will see some archaeological sites and an Indian cemetery.
