History
Montes de Oro (Mountain of Gold) has to do with rich gold deposits in the mountains of the area. The canton seat is called Miramar which means “sea view”.
General Description
The terrain is dry and stony. It is drained by the rivers Abangares and Barranca. In additional to the gold mines, there is farming of sugar cane, corn, coffee, rice, beans and friut.
Interesting Sites
The city of Miramar is linked with Puntarenas and the interior of the country by the highway that arrives to Barranca.
