History
The area was inhabited by Brunca Indians and later settled by Spanish in 1571. A mule trail from Cartago to Panama oponed through Coto Brus in 1601. The area´s development was further boosted by coffee farming in 1949 and by the arrival of a community of Italian farmers.
General Description
In this canton are the foothills of Fila Province and the high plateaus of San Vito. The area is drained by two watersheds: Rio Grande de Tárraba and the Esquinas.
Interesting Sites
The canton has several tourist attractions Duch as Las Tablas, La Amistad International
Park and the Guayami Indian Reserve.
Climate
The climate is warm.
