History
Settlement dates back to the 18th Century with the establiswhment of the Canton´s first city, Trés Ríos. There are two versions to the origin of the Canton´s name. One is that a union of missionaries formed in the canton and the other refers to the union of three rivers - Tiribí, Chiquito and Fierro.
General Description
The area is generally hilly and drained by Río Grande de Tarcoles. The main farm products are coffee, sugarcane and cattle.
Interesting Sites
The canton seat, Trés Ríos is 10km west of Cartago city and is situated at the foothills of the CArpintera Hills.
