History
El Guarco became a canton in 1939. It is named after the Huetar chief who once lived in the region.
General Description
The town of Cartago was originally founded on this flan land, but most of the area today is dedicated to farms. The canton is drained by the rivers Reventazón, Parismina and Pirrís.
Interesting Sites
In the canton seat, Tejar, you´ll find a unique Catholic Church whose interior is one of the most beautiful in the Province.
