History
The Spanish called the area San Jerónimo de Los Votos when they discovered it in 1640. It was later settled by a group from the Quesada family that came from San Ramón. The town later became known as Ciudad Quesada. The canton has an area called the LLanuras de San Carlos (Plains of San Carlos) a name given to the canton in 1911 stemming from the popular idea that the plains formed from the washing of the San Carlos River.
General Description
The area is drained by the San Carlos, Pocosol and Frío Rivers. Most of the canton is taken up for livestock raising. Other farm products include corn, beans, sugarcane, coffee, cacao, plantain, caña india, tubers, and fruit.
Places of Interest
Ciudad Quesada is the busines center of the canton and has been classified as a town since 1953. It has been the canton seat since 1911.
Climate
It rains heavily for most of the year except February through May when the rain is lighter and less frequent.
