Central Volcanic Cordillera Conservation Area, Alajuela
It protects most of the upper and middle basin of the River Toro, which is of particular importance due to the existence of the hydroelectric projects Toro I and Toro II, which use the waters of this river. Most of this protection zone is covered in forests where there are tree species like sweet cedar (Cedrela tonduzii) and oak (Querqus). The forest of this protected area can be seen from the road that leads to the hydroelectric projects.
