This comprises seven units of forest located in the high parts of the mountains in the center of the Peninsula. These blocks, containing disturbed primary forests, secondary forests and shrubs, fulfill the important function of protecting the drainage basins that supply Jicaral, Lepanto, Paquera and Cóbano with water. Some dirt tracks out of these towns allow visitors to venture into the seven units.
