One of the few Marine Mammals

In a few rivers, estuaries, and coastal areas (especially around Tortuguero) you may glimpse the endangered West Indian manatee (manati; Trichechus manatus), a large marine mammal (up to 4m and 600 kg, though usually smaller) that feed an aquatic vegetation. There are no seals or sea lions, so a manatee is easy to recognize.
