Smallish green and white bird with long, heavy bill; white belly, white neek-band and throat; male with wide reddish brown bar across chest; female with greenish bands across chest; smaller than Amazon Kingfisher, with less conspicuous head crest; to 19 cm (7.5 in). Low and middle elevation aquatic sites, Caribbean and Pacific slopes; found along shoreline, rivers, larger streams, lakes, ponds, lagoons.
