Identification:

Slender, medium-sizedduck, rust-colored with black belly; bill and feet red; immature bird is dull brown with grayish belly and dark bill; to 55cm (22in). (Pijije Común, Piche).

Habitat:

Aquatic habitats over Caribbean and Pacific lowlands; found in ponds, lakes, marshes, and wet grassy areas.

Braulio Carrillo National Park.
Carara National Park.
Caño Negro National Wildlife Refuge.
Corcovado National Park.
La Amistad National Park.
La Selva Biological Reserve.
Palo Verde National Park.
Rincón de La Vieja National Park.
