San José the cosmopolitan capital of Costa Rica offers a wide variety of restaurants and places to eat. No doubt there is something for any taste or budget. You'll find Peruvian Restaurants, Brazilian Restaurants, Middle Eastern Restaurants, Mexican Restaurants as well as as the all time standards of Italian Restaurants, Chinese Restaurants and French Restaurants and a never ending chain of Fast Food Restaurants like Mc Donald's, Burger Kings, Pizza Huts, Subways, Wendy's, 'Princesa Marina', 'Rosty Pollos' and Spoons.
Remember with exception of the very cheap places, to all prices there is automatically 13% sales tax and 10% service added. Some of the better restaurants like Cerrutti and also some popular chains like the "Princesa Marina" can get very busy and it is a good idea to make a reservation. If you want to have a large variety of different kind of Bars, Restaurants and Discos in one place, we recommend to go to the "Pueblo" Some of the Bars also offer good food. My wife Angela and I we always go to "Los Balcones" there. The excellent food is cooked on a wood fire and there is life music. If you are real hungry an like fish or lobster, try one of the many "Princesa Marina" Restaurants. Their specialty is Sea Food. Try the entire Fish with no fishbone.
