General Information

Located south of Nicaragua and north of Panama, Costa Rica is bathed by both the Caribbean Sea and the Pacific Ocean. It spreads over 19,653 square miles and it is the second smallest country in Central America.

This mountainous isthmus, that rises to somewhat less than 13,200 feet above sea level, has both continental and insular coasts of some 780 miles of length. The distance from coast to coast is from 90 to 150 miles. From one borderline to the other, it gets to a maximum of 210 miles. It has two seasons: Dry and rainy. The latter takes place from April to November, while the former, from December to March. The temperature fluctuates around 99deg in some coastal areas to 32deg in the most elevated mountain peaks.
