Keep Your Mind Busy and Say Goodbye to Stress

Retirement has been said to be like looking for a job. You have to really work at it. If adequately planned for, it can be a period of satisfying activity and more rewarding than you have believed it to be. There has always been much dread in the idea of retirement because people are inclined to regard it as a negative action rather than a positive condition. In a way, retirement means activity with freedom. No boss to report to; no rushing to arrive at your 9 to 5 job. Today retirees often run part-time businesses, volunteer at social service agencies, take their hobbies seriously and travel worldwide.

Retirement is not a time to quit being busy. It's merely to change in activity. It's a time to develop wider interests and find new opportunities for being useful. It's also a time to consider earning a little money either doing part-time work or starting a small business to supplement an income. You might want to start a hobby, a creative activity, get into home gardening, develop new friendships, build personal relations or partake in community work. The main thing is to keep your mind working and enthusiastic about life and the future. Psychologists say this is what makes for longer living and leads to a happier life no matter how old you are.

Before you retire I'm sure you have given great thought to how you will go about it. You should know what you want to do, how your health is, how much money you will need. Also, know your own physical condition, range of interests and abilities. Set goals everyday, be active, and don't withdraw from life. Happy retirees have an active philosophy which is nothing more than realistic optimistic living.

Many retirees make up a personal enrichment program for themselves which include more involvement in education and lifelong learning, more physical fitness activity, and more cooperation and joining with others to do some service to the local community.

It's time to consider what you like best and do what you always wanted to do. In addition, when you retire determine whether you will stay where you are, locate in another city or state, or even go abroad. If among your thoughts has come the idea of living abroad, and I repeat, you should by all means consider Costa Rica.
