Puntarenas Costa Rica
About 13 km away from downtown Puntarenas, Playa Doña Ana is the first clean beach. There are actually two beaches a few hundred meters away from each other: Bica Barranca and Doña ana. Surfing is good at both beaches, especially Boca Barranca. The Doña Ana beach has been developed for tourism - there's a sign on the Costanera sur (coastal highway) south of Puntarenas that reads 'Paradero Turístico Doña Ana'. At the beach entrance is a parking lot with a fee and there are also day-use fees for the beach which is open from 8 AM to 5 PM. There are snack bars, picnic shelters, changing areas, and a swimming pool.
