Q

I want to come to Costa Rica. Where do I start?

A

First you should decide what you want to do during your stay. I came here in 1967 and still want to explore many places which I have never seen. You'll find most information you'll need on this large site. It will help you decide if you want to climb mountains, sunbathe, surf at the beach, make some adrenaline-loaded tours, go bird-watching or explore the abundant flora and fauna.

Q

Where can I find the best rates?

A

Rates are constantly changing and have to be reconfirmed every time we receive a reservation request. We update this information on over 500 different hotels and dozens of tours. We also visit the places frequently to reconfirm their standards. Save time and frustration by using our expertise and service.

Q

Do I have to compare rates?

A

We guarantee the same or better rates and services compared with other agencies or directly with the provider. You'll find outdated rates everywhere. You can save lots of time by comparing rates right here. When you find what you are looking for, we will call the provider for final confirmation on rates and availability.

Q

Do you give information about hotels not mentioned on this web-site?

A

Yes. We stay informed about more than 1000 hotels and hundreds of tours in Costa Rica. We are adding dozens of new places at any given time. First we visit the hotel or take the tour and take our own pictures. So even before new destinations are on our site, we can still give you rates, send you pictures, and assist you with reservations.

Q

What are the entry requirements?

A

That depends on which country you are coming from. Visit our page called First Time Traveler with Visa requirements, Consulates etc.

Q

Where can I find more information?

A

To keep our menus on every page as short and practical as possible, we created a page called Costa Rica Information which is our Main Index. This index is available in 5 languages and should cover most topics of interest for tourists as well as for residents. If you are looking for businesses, use our Yellow Pages

Q

What is the best time to come?

A

Now!! Any time in Costa Rica is time in paradise. It all depends on what you are looking for. The hottest and driest time you'll find from December till April on the Northern and Central Pacific Coast, which has a season with rains in the afternoon especially during September, October and November. It is exactly these three months which are the best times to visit the laid back Caribbean Coast. If you want to swim with Dolphins, August and the Golfo Dulce is your best bet and to see the landings of thousands of turtles, this will happen at still other times and locations.

Q

Where is the best climate?

A

According to some studies, the best climate of the world can be found in the Central Valley of Costa Rica. (1200m altitude.) The temperature here is always around 20º Celsius and is also called the eternal spring. If you like it cooler, you can go further up the mountains and if you like it warmer you go down towards the beaches.

Q

Are there nudist beaches?

A

There are no official nudist beaches in Costa Rica. Nudity in public is illegal. But there are so many secluded and un-crowded places that if you like to skinny-dip there are lots of opportunities. We heard that in Manuel Antonio there is a piece of beach which is frequented by the gay and lesbian community where nudism is tolerated.

Q

Can I smoke Marihuana in Costa Rica?

A

As opposed to in Europe, Marihuana and Hash are still illegal in Costa Rica and you might end up in prison or you might get involved in some sort of black-mail by the vendors. It may be offered to you in some tourist locations. Our strong recommendation is not to bring, touch or use any illegal drugs (including Marihuana) and not to get involved in any conversation with somebody offering it to you. If this subject interests you, read my newsletter about Hemp.

Q

How about crime?

A

Compared with other countries, crime-rates here are very low. The main problem is theft. Keep a close eye on you belongings and rented car. Do not repair a flat tire on the road. Drive to the next Gas Station or other safe place (with the flat). Keep your belongings in sight in buses and beware that conversations are not decoys. Use the safety box in the hotels. Never stop for hich-hikers or anybody else trying to stop you unless its an official police control. Don't keep valuables in the parked car. Most deadly crimes here have to do with drugs, vengance or family disputes. Regarding other hazards, get informed on this page.

Q

Is Costa Rica a good destination for a family vacation?

A

Absolutely Yes. Depending on the age and the interests of your kids, you have a wide choice of beaches. Playa Panama has no waves at all and is ideal for small kids. Many other beaches have perfect waves for surfers at any level. For more information, read our Children and Travelling page.
